I have spent years diving with, photographing and filming sharks all over the world and there is no animal more graceful under the water. People live in ignorance of sharks, how many times have you heared someone say "I won't swim in the sea since I saw Jaws" ? Rodney Fox was the tech. advisor on Jaws, himself a victim of a Great White attack and he regrets the negative impact that film had. If people keep killing sharks they will be extinct in a few years and in turn the oceans of the world will die, this needs to be brought home to people and the governments of the world. We are killing the planet and the life on it. Regards Moraybite |

So lets hit them where it hurts in the wallet. If you are thinking of a holiday in spain go somewhere else. Icelands whale watching industry took a downturn when iceland resumed whaling. So their holiday industry spoke out against whaling. They only take notice when it costs them money. |

Between October 10-18, 2009, there is a "European Shark Week" at which regulations for European shark finning will be discussed and Shark Alliance is preparing to hand over a petition to the prime minister of Spain requesting to stop opposing strict regulations. You can find the petition here: http://www.europeansharkweek.org/petition09 If you are prepared to download the petition and collect signatures, you can just scan the filled document and e-mail it to katrien.vandevelde@pandora.be , before the end of September 2009. I will make sure they get it in time. I THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE! Katrien Vandevelde |

I really had no idea how bad it was, i knew there were many issues surrounding the misconceptions and many sharks were being killed but I did not understand to what extend. I am not exactly a shark lover, but I do have a strong respect for all animals and this is horrific. If there is a petition I can link to on my facebook or send through email please let me know, or if there is anything else I can do to help. I am a teacher and will really plan to do whatever I can to help sharks as well as other animals by instilling a respect for animals in my students. |

Therefore I can only express my deepest reverence to Ila and Alex for their never ending work, their around the clock commitment, and this great unfolding initiative. Let's spread the word and make 2009 a successful brightening year for the sharks. And as suggested, let's follow-up by making 2010-2020 the decade of the sharks :-) |
